To say that Praia do Barril is one of the best BEACHES in Portugal is not an over exaggeration. This beach was the first beach we visited when we came to the Tavira area and the one closest to the Pedras d’el Rei resort. It is in the hearts of many Portuguese who spent their childhood summers here and now come to visit with their children and parents.

Praia do Arraial is situated on the land side opposite the Ilha de Tavira – One of the Ria Formosa Islands situated off the mainland in this area of Portugal. So you don’t need to catch a ferry or train to get to this beach.
Cabanas Beach or Praia de Cabanas in Portuguese is situated on the Ilha de Cabanas, another of the islands that form the unique Ria Formosa National Park. Like the other beaches within the Tavira County, it is reached by crossing the stretch of water that makes up the lagoon between the island and the mainland.
Praia da Terra Estreita is probably our favourite Tavira Beach. Well of all the Tavira Beaches this is the most uncomplicated. Apart from getting there that is. It is also accessed from the village we have made our home, Santa Luzia. So maybe a little bit of bias there.
Praia da Ilha de Tavira as part of Tavira Ria de Formosa is the closest beach to Tavira town. It is also the busiest beach in the area providing a location for all ages.In the summer it is a vibrant location that the locals and tourists alike flock to. The long sandy blue flag beach is supplemented by excellent restaurants and bars and constantly changing activities.
